Roof Trusses and a Rare Find
It was an exciting day when the lumber yard delivered the trusses.
We arrived on the place and noticed the trusses stacked in a bunch on top of the garage.
Turns out, each truss was too heavy for the four-man crew to move without mechanical assistance. They had to move the hydraulic lift into place inside the garage to support the truss as they moved it towards the end of the garage.
They finally got the first truss in place and quickly went to work on placing the rest of the garage trusses.
When the garage trusses were in place they started work on the trusses over the second floor. We didn't get many photos of this process unfortunately. We were making preparations for driving back to Texas.
In our final weeks in Washington we packed in as much as we could.
Fifteen of us went to a Mariner's ballgame, compliments of Joe and Sharon. Mariner's beat the Red Sox 6 - 3. Tons of fun but it got hot!
We spent a day with friends from Northern California where we used to live.
Ranae and I traveled to visit Aunt Sandra and I didn't take one photo. Shame on me!
The final week I was searching for a used carry-on bag to use on the drive back to Texas. I searched seven stores, three of them thrift stores. One store in Bremerton, the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store did not have any luggage, but they did have doors.
Now, earlier in July we had been instructed by the builder to go to Home Depot and make our door selection. Some of the upper end doors were marked $3500 to $4100. Needless to say we did not choose them!
So when I found a door for one tenth the Home Depot price I couldn't believe it. And I knew the builder had likely already put in our order. When I told Butch of my find that evening, he too was skeptical that it would work. Nonetheless, he called the builder who amazingly had not placed the door order.
The next morning, Tuesday, we were at the Re-Store just as they opened for business. We were able to find the door and one other for the attic. And since it was Tuesday, we got an extra 20% off for our senior discount. They even loaded the door into Gavin's truck for us and we took it out to the property.
I wish to say how thrilled and thankful I am for this door. I consider it a gift from God's own hand, and evidence that He will continue to guide and bless the building efforts. Thank You, Lord!
